
Nick Hawkins

Nick Hawkins is a senior Corporate Barrister, Company Chairman and NED. Throughout his career he’s been involved in advising Companies, from small start-ups through to large national and international household-name operations, as well as spending years in-house as Legal Director/Company Secretary and equivalent roles.
Currently, part-time, a Corporate Partner in the senior-lawyers-only 175-partner law firm GunnerCooke LLP who operate from premises in Leeds and have large offices in Manchester and the City of London, in recent years Nick has worked with quite a number of University spin-out projects/Companies, particularly in the tech sector, and run one as a CEO, taking it through two investment rounds.
Nick also has Government experience, having been an M.P. 1992-2005, holding junior roles in Government, and then being appointed as a Shadow Minister under each of three successive Opposition leaders. His most senior role was Shadow Solicitor-General. Nick has spoken at many Conferences, including, in recent years, instructing future NEDs on their legal and corporate responsibilities. Nick is passionate about helping Northern businesses to grow.
