Investing with us

Equity Investment (Angel Investors, £25k – £100k)

Eligible startups can apply to NorthInvest to share a proposition with our angel investor community for equity investment. Investor-ready startups will be included in a curated monthly email of deal opportunities or pitch event. Angel investors choose to invest in on a deal-by-deal basis at their own discretion. Investment offer and equity share is then discussed between both parties. We don’t charge startups for their investment raise. Instead, a 3% broker fee is payable by the investor(s) in addition to the total amount raised.

 Equity Investment (Co-Funding, £100k – £500k)

On occasion, we will also share propositions with funds who collaborate with us to co-invest in opportunities by leveraging their own investor networks or equity fund.

Innovate UK (IUK) Accelerator Programme (Match-Funding, £200k – £1m)

NorthInvest co-divests a grant fund as part of the Northern Angel Hub with Innovation SuperNetwork, Newcastle. If a startup is successful in its raise and application to IUK, any angel investment raised through the Northern Angel Hub will be matched by grant funding from Innovate UK. Primary Investment Sectors

We support startups that use technology as a core component of their business, whether developing an innovative medical device or using AI to streamline an everyday process. Due to the variety of specialists among our angel investor network, successful propositions fall loosely into five tech sub-sectors: Cyber, Media, MedTech, Tech for Good, and FinTech. However we are open to investment opportunities beyond these sectors and work closely with research institutions across the Northern Powerhouse Region to support innovative emerging technologies.

The investment process

We offer free coaching and honest feedback to startups to ensure only the highest quality propositions are introduced to our investor network. Every month, our investors receive a curated email of 5-6 startups. We then facilitate introductions between any interested investors and entrepreneurs to begin the deal process. We work with corporate partners and collaborator funds to ensure both investors and entrepreneurs feel supported at every stage and can help with valuations, tax and accountancy, legal and IP, and HR support.

‘We couldn’t be happier to receive this investment and are very grateful to Alistair and Jonny Brownlee for their support, and to the NorthInvest team for their guidance. BikeZaar is all about collaboration and we feel we’ve connected with experts who share our ethos and want to support local retailers by combining tradition and technology.’
